Hopkins, whose ward makes up a portion of the 2nd Senate District, said he's supporting Alfaro because of her long-standing commitment to improving the lives of children, families and seniors in her community. And as a senator, she will continue fighting on behalf of residents through her initiatives on safer streets, better public schools, and income inequality, he added.
"Angelica has always been an advocate for children and families, and she will continue that mission in Springfield," said Hopkins. "I'm also impressed because it's not about politics with her; it’s about family and community. Her deep community roots will give her the strength to stand up to the political machine and put community before politics."
Angelica Alfaro thanked Alderman Hopkins and pledged to work with him on behalf of all residents in the Second District.
"It is an honor and privilege to receive Alderman Hopkins support who, like myself, was a long-standing community advocate before deciding to run for office," said Alfaro. "I look forward to partnering with him as state senator on behalf of the residents he represents in the second district and putting our advocacy experience to work for them in Springfield."
Alfaro's community platform includes supporting universal background checks for every gun purchase and preventing illegal guns from getting on the streets, fixing Illinois’ public education funding system so local schools get the support they need, and fighting for tax reform to reduce income inequality and make the wealthiest in Illinois pay their fair share.
